Bonfiglioli S.p.A. is a market leader in the production of components and solutions for power transmissions and operates on a worldwide scale. To enhance the close ties with the territory in which it is historically connected, Open Project has carried out a significant expansion and rationalized design project of the production plant located in Calderara di Reno.

After an intense period of research and analysis of the functional requests of the client, the company mission was translated into the architectural choices of layout and materials. Flexibility, adaptability over time and democratic spaces have become the main design guidelines.

Employees and visitors are led into the new building by a long-covered walkway which leads to the glazed entrance hall. In the new office complex the workstations are distributed in open space areas to optimize operational needs as well as closed office spaces and meeting rooms distributed on all floors. The internal courtyards allow for a view of the exterior greenery from both the workspaces and the restaurant and canteen area.

The factory becomes a place of innovation, a research and development hub where technology is at the service of the user, who performs a highly recognized and qualified job. The functionality of the factory never comes before the pleasure of living in the workspace nor the beauty that surrounds it. The building is designed as an nZEB with high energy performance, meant for people and designed for innovation.

The company’s historical and technological heritage are transformed culturally by means of the new interior installation project for the hall arranged as the company museum. A double intervention, an installation and exhibition space, narrates and conveys the mission of Bonfiglioli, where tradition, experience and innovation accompany visitors for a museum experience.
