BUILDING HAPPINESS | Explorations on the Happiness of Spaces
How can architecture contribute to people's happiness?
Building Happiness stems from the idea that every space is in a relationship with those who pass through it, live in it, and transform it—and vice versa. It is the result of a year-long research project that weaves together different disciplines and perspectives to propose new ways of designing, building, and shaping happy places.
It is an evolving map, a collection of fragments—images, words, metaphorical figures—that invites exploration. By recognizing recurring patterns, visions, and forms that enable space to convey different emotions, eight relational figures offer an alternative way of interpreting space. This approach complements more traditional and disciplinary readings and provides both readers and designers with new perspectives for thinking about design as an act of care and imagining happiness as a concrete, shared, and everyday possibility.
Fondazione per l'architettura / Torino
The Fondazione per l’architettura / Torino was founded in 2002 by the Order of Architects of Turin with the aim of promoting architecture as a discipline capable of improving quality of life—both individually and collectively.
Through continuous dialogue among academic knowledge, professional practice, and local communities, the Foundation creates opportunities for discussion, exchange, and experimentation. Its initiatives target a broad and diverse audience: professionals, institutions, and citizens alike.
The Foundation firmly believes that architecture is a gesture of relationship and responsibility—capable of fostering care, a sense of belonging, and new opportunities for communities.
Every initiative it promotes is intended as an invitation to inhabit the present more consciously and to collectively imagine a more equitable, open, and sustainable future.
