Limen Colonia Bolognese

The redevelopment project for the former Colonia Bolognese in Rimini involves the creation of a new accommodation complex within a significant historical landmark dating from the early 20th century: the pursuit of well-being in a space surrounded by nature – which gave rise to the building itself – is reinterpreted in a contemporary key, in a project that blends seamlessly with both the urban and natural environments. In this initial phase, the decision was taken to focus on issues relating to the protection, safety and conservation of the property, through a project of critical conservation restoration and structural consolidation works.

Built in 1932 by engineer Ildebrando Tabarroni, the Bolognese Marine Colony of Miramare, originally named X Legio, consists of a main complex and two separate buildings used for isolation and laundry.

The building has a symmetrical layout, forming a veritable gateway both on the side facing the town and on the side overlooking the sea.

The central pavilion is clearly the main building: a central staircase marks the entrance to the complex, featuring an arched opening surmounted by a balcony decorated with corbels. A plastered band, once decorated, at the level of the first-floor ceiling, bordered by terracotta decorations, and a band at the upper cornice decorated with frescoes embellish the four façades.
The outdoor areas feature a geometric and compositional design along the urban side and a more ‘free-form’ approach towards the sea, serving as a true social and representative space for the colony’s activities.
