HOME / PROJECTS / Infrastructures / Cogeneration Power Plant

The site lies in the industrial outskirts of the city of Imola. The building is located within the Hera compound, which already hoses infrastructure and office buildings.
The scheme occupies a surface area of about 3500 sqm in the eastern part of the compound, near the main road serving the industrial quarter of the city. The building will house a METANO generation plant. Because of the proximity to the main road, the aim for this project was to minimize the visual impact of the building complex, while also reducing the noise pollution in the area.
Taking inspiration from the significative presence of vegetation in the area, we have tried to integrate the east facade with the surrounding landscape by building an artificial hill, cut in two, in order to create a visual tunnel focused on the chimneys. These are enclosed in a square structure that disguises the mass of the tower.
The tower becomes a landmark and the tridimensional logo for the plant. Looking from the road, it can be perceived as rising and twisting, a to represent the clean energy of the methane gas burning.
In order to integrate the design and to give it a more slender appearance, the facades have been framed by a 4 m high fascia, a light paneling system that follows the curve of the roof.
The plan of the building has been laid out on a 45° grid, in line with the existing hexagonal warehouses. This allows for the visual tunnel to become even longer, exploiting the resulting perspective to further remove the building from the road.
